Oregon CopBlock

Badges don't grant extra rights.

Film the police.

Oregon CopBlock is a decentralized project. We are supported by a diverse group of individuals in the Oregon area, united by a shared goal of police accountability. By documenting police actions ... whether they are illegal, immoral or just a waste of time and resources, and then putting direct pressure on the individuals responsible (ideally while recording and then later sharing), we can work together to bring about transparency and have a real impact. Oregon CopBlock is a resource, for the education of individual rights through the dissemination of different tactics and viewpoints that will curtail all-too-common civil rights violations ... and bring accountability where it does not yet exist.

We do not “hate cops.” We simply believe that no one – not even those with badges – has extra rights. The failure to realize and act on that is to our detriment. By focusing the disinfecting light of transparency on public officials, we safeguard not just our rights but those of future generations.

This Oregon CopBlock chapter was founded by Christopher Ponte in 2013. Since then, the group has established identities on facebook, YouTube and twitter. Using social media, the group

  • builds momentum for police accountability,
  • keeps one another informed of individual efforts,
  • documents police misconduct, and
  • notifies the public when cops are held accountable.
